Peppermint oil has many uses but above all is used as a stimulant for the digestive system and is a great remedy to treat cases of irritable bowel. Steps to follow:-
1. To make peppermint essential oil you will need a series of ingredients such as fresh mint – bought directly or that is your own plant -, an airtight glass jar, a wooden mallet, a plastic bag and oil that can be made of grapes, olive or almond, as you prefer. The first thing you should do is take the fresh mint from your garden or buy it if you do not have it at home.
2. It is recommended that the peppermint harvest be early in the morning, which is when the essential oils reach their highest peak of aroma and potential. Always before the sun strikes directly on the leaves of the plant. Choose the leaves with fewer imperfections or none, and that do not present any insect or bite. Once you have chosen the perfect leaves, you should wash them all with cold water; then remove the remains of water shaking well.
3. Once the leaves are well dry, they should all be placed in an airtight plastic kitchen bag. Next, you must close the bag well and with a sledgehammer hit the peppermint so that all its essential oils come out. Once finished you must deposit the mixture in a glass jar and add the oil you have chosen. Cover the pot well, shake so that the peppermint is distributed evenly and let stand for at least 24 hours.
4. Once the resting time has passed, you must strain the mixture with a colander to separate the mint from the remains of the plant. This process can be repeated every day until the oil acquires the thickness and strength desired. More or less this process lasts at most 5 days. Once that time has passed, you should pour the oil in another dark glass jar, you should close it well and keep it in an area away from direct light. From that moment you can use it when you need it.
5. If you have digestion problems, you can add a drop of the peppermint oil to a glass of hot water and drink then. If, for example, you suffer from headaches you can apply a couple of drops directly on the forehead. Whatever the area that hurts you can put drops in the area to be treated.
