Asthma : Tips, Causes, Types & Home Remedies

The asthma is a complex clinical syndrome characterized by recurrent obstruction and reversible airway. The inflammation of the airways also leads to hyperresponsiveness, which causes airways to constrict in response to various stimuli.Asthma attack illustration

Types of Asthma

  • Seasonal Asthma: It is produced by pollination and allergic reaction to this compound, so it only affects the seasons in which it occurs.
  • Non-Allergic Asthma: It is also produced by irritation but in this case any compound that attacks the respiratory tract like tobacco smoke and therefore occurs in any situation.
  • Occupational Asthma: It is triggered by permanent exposure to this type of compounds during the working day.
  • Exercise-Induced Asthma: It occurs as a result of the intense physical activity.
  • Night Asthma: It is characterized by intense episodes and its recurrence at night being able to involve all the previous types.

Causes of Asthma

Asthma is produced by over reaction of the imunne system due to complex interactions between the genetic makeup inherited from an individual and their interaction with the environment. Factors that make an individual genetically predisposed to become asthmatic are poorly understood. The following are risk factors for asthma:

  • Family history of allergic conditions.
  • Personal history of hay fever ( allergic rhinitis).
  • Respiratory viral disease, such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), during childhood.
  • Exposure to cigarette smoke.
  • Obesity
  • Low socioeconomic level
  • Vaccinations

Among the primary medical treatments we find:

Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are the most effective anti-inflammatory agents available for the chronic treatment of asthma and are the first-line treatment by most specialists. It is well recognized that ICS is very efficient in reducing the risk of asthma exacerbations. In addition, the combination of a long-acting bronchodilator and an ICS has a significant additional beneficial effect in improving asthma control.

There is often concern about possible long-term side effects of inhaled corticosteroids. Numerous studies have repeatedly shown that even long-term use of inhaled corticosteroids has very few or no clinically significant sustained side effects, including changes in bone health or weight gain.

However, the goal is always to treat all people with the least amount of medication that is effective. Patients with asthma should be reassessed routinely to assess changes in their condition.

Home Remedies For Asthma

We quote you some home remedies to treat asthma and help you feel better.

1. Onion, Honey, and Lemon

The onion with its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, lemon with its detoxifying properties and honey with its antiseptic and antibiotic properties, make the combination of these three foods a good ally to strengthen the immune system and treat respiratory diseases.

In a frying pan cook for a few minutes chopped onion slices, add a liter of water, and let it boil on medium heat until the water is reduced by a third. Let stand and squeeze a couple of lemons, then add a few spoons of honey and let stand a few hours.

Cover and store in a glass container. Take one tablespoon of this syrup 3 times a day until you notice better lung health.

2. Tea / Coffee

Coffee is a bronchodilator and caffeine can temporarily reduce its symptoms. Drinking two cups of coffee or tea a day can help prevent asthma symptoms by relaxing lungs.
Remember, that for people suffering from heart and blood pressure it can be dangerous.

3. Ginger

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and a great natural product to treat respiratory problems. Taking ginger tea makes it a good remedy for treating asthma.
Cut into pieces a ginger root and add it to boiling water. After a few minutes, let stand, strain and have a good tea to help treat this problem.

4. Turmeric

Turmeric can help treat chronic asthma because of its anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
In a glass with warm water add a tablespoon of turmeric, mix, and drink. To sweeten its flavor can be added a teaspoon of honey. Take daily.

5. Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus herb helps improve breathing while having antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Add a handful of eucalyptus leaves in a liter of water, put to boil and watch not burn and covered with a cloth head, suck their vapors. Another option is to make saunas of eucalyptus using vaporizers that you can find in some herbalists. This remedy helps to soothe the symptoms and clear up the pulmonary pathways.

 

Asthma medications can be given through inhalers with or without a nebulized solution. It is important to note that if an individual does not have an adequate technique with an inhaler, the amount of medicine deposited in the lungs is no different from when a nebulized solution is used.

When prescribing medications for asthma, it is imperative to provide appropriate instruction on the correct technique to use them.

Precautions To Be Taken

Stopping smoking and minimizing exposure to cigarette smoke is critical in the treatment of asthma. Treatment of concurrent conditions such as allergic rhinitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) may also improve asthma control.

Since Asthmatic medicines have side effects and have to be taken lifelong then it is best to minimize the use by adopting natural remedies for handling Asthma.

 

Asthma Tips and Advice

1. Avoid stress. Have a relaxed atmosphere.
2. Breathe through the nose and not through the mouth.
3. Take organic food.
4. Avoid cold air and monitor climate changes.
5. Stop smoking if you are a smoker.
6. Avoid as much as possible make very large efforts.
7. Eliminate mites as much as possible (do not use carpets, clean sheets weekly, avoid objects that hold dust).
8. Avoid environmental contamination and exposure to chemicals.
9. Drink plenty of water. It helps mucus secretions to be thinner and easier to eject.
10. Take foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin C.
11. Avoid allergies caused by pets (dogs, cats, birds).
12. Avoid drinking cold drinks and ice creams.
13. Learn to use inhalers correctly.
14. If asthma increases in frequency or takes more medication than usual, go to the doctor’s office.
